A warm welcome to the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Website!
Located in the heart of Oldenburg our hospital combines the highest medical standards with a warm and friendly atmosphere as well as dedicated staff.
The department of Internal Medicine offers a broad spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services for acute and chronic medical illnesses. There are in all 4 medical wards including over 60 beds. We hope that our website succeeds in giving you an impression of our various specialties and services.
Cardiovascular Diseases
Using numerous diagnostic techniques such as transoesphageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardiac computertomography, our team can choose the most appropriate care for each patient. In a close cooperation with the cardiology department of the Klinikum Oldenburg we treat patients with acute myocardial infarction offering coronary angiography and angioplasty. Subsequent to the acute therapy we initiate the uptake of cardiac rehabilitation service in the Oldenburger Rehabilitation Clinic. We also work closely with our dieticians supporting patients with guidance on reducing lifestyle risk factors such as poor diet and high cholesterol.
We participate in the national Disease Management Program, which was set up to support the implementation of evidence-based practice using the latest guidelines.
In cooperation with the neurology department we treat patients suffering strokes. In order to reduce the risk of long term disability a spezial stroke unit managed by the neurological deprament is available.
Gastroenterology
The department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services with numerous endoscopy procedures. The procedures take place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in order to reduce the discomfort of the investigation to a minimum.
Intensive Care
This specially designed and equipped Unit provides a setting where particularly trained clinicians and nursing staff can provide the optimal treatment of life threatening illnesses and all medical emergencies. Furthermore we treat patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and treatment such as patients with acute myocardial infarction or arrhythmias. On our interdisciplinary unit we share a close cooperation with the anaesthetic and neurological department. Therefore we can offer an optimal care for patients with complex and multidisciplinary disorders.
Rheumatology
With an expertise of over 20 years we represent the specialist centre of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology in Oldenburg. We offer the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid or inflammatory arthritis, connective tissues diseases, vasculitis and spondyloarthritis. In cooperation with the Physiotherapy Department we create an individual and complex therapy plan for each patient including intensive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, meditation classes and kryotherapy. The main research areas include causes and treatments for vasculitis such as Wegener´s Granulomatosis and severe and complex cases of rheumatoid arthritis.
Palliative Care
Palliative care is defined as an all-embracing care of patients whose disease is incurable. The goal of palliative care is to achieve the best quality of life for patients and their families by providing effective symptom control (e.g. pain, breathlessness, sickness, nausea and vomiting) and addressing psychological, social and spiritual needs.
Our Palliative Care Unit currently consists of 4 beds located on the medical ward 22. Furthermore we plan to extend our service to 8 beds offering a new and independent Palliative Care Ward.
Care of the Elderly
The elderly care unit works closely with other departments to ensure that our patients receive services and treatment appropriate to their needs. We provide a broad range of investigative and therapeutic services provided by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, nurses and therapists. Our dedicated social workers help to solve social issues and to ensure the community care of our patients.
Nutrition and Dietetics
Nutrition is a key element in both health promotion and in the treatment of many diseases. The right nutritional approach can improve a patient’s quality of life by allowing them to make informed choices. Along with our patients we create individual nutrition plans and demonstrate that healthy cooking can be delicious as well as easy to prepare.
